Literature References: Prepn: Chelidonic acid is converted to chelidamic acid by the action of NH3, chelidamic acid is iodinated with iodine in a boiling aq alkaline soln, the iodinated product is methylated at the nitrogen with dimethyl sulfate in hot alkaline soln, cf. Dohrn, Diedrich, Ann. 494, 284 (1932); DE 545916; DE 545266; DE 556142; US 1919417 (1933).
Properties: Crystals, dec around 200° with effervescence. Freely sol in water (1:1). Practically insol in chloroform, ether, acetone, petr ether.
