Properties: Powder, bitter taste. mp 155-160° (Schlesinger); mp 197° (Werner, Scholz). One gram dissolves in about 4.2 parts of 1N NaOH. Slightly sol in acetic acid. Very slightly sol in water, alcohol, chloroform. Practically insol in ether.
