Title: Hachimycin
CAS Registry Number: 1394-02-1
CAS Name: Trichomycin
Trademarks: Trichonat (Grñenthal)
Literature References: Heptaene macrolide antibiotic substance produced by Streptomyces hachijoensis from soil of the Pacific Island Hachijo Jima: S. Hosoya et al., J. Antibiot. 5, 564 (1952); T. Yamaguchi, ibid. 7A, 10 (1954). Purification and prepn of insol derivs: S. Hosoya et al., ibid. 8A, 5 (1955). At one time, trichomycin was believed to be identical to candicidin and hamycin, q.q.v.: H. Burrows, D. Calam, J. Chromatogr. 53, 566 (1970). Subsequent HPLC studies have shown the three polyene antibiotics to be different entities: P. Helboe et al., ibid. 189, 249 (1980). Active against Trichomonas vaginalis, Treponema pallidum, Trichophyton, Candida, and yeast, weak activity against Aspergillus and Penicillium: T. Yamaguchi, J. Antibiot. 7A, 10 (1954). Toxicity: S. Hosoya et al., J. Antibiot. 6A, 98 (1953). Review: S. A. Waksman, H. A. Lechevalier, The Actinomycetes vol. III (Williams & Wilkins, Baltimore, 1962) pp 397-399.
