Properties: Odorless, monoclinic crystals or granules. Efflorescent in air with loss of some NH3. d 1.544. mp ~80° when rapidly heated. Prolonged heating produces NaPO3. Sol in about 5 parts cold, 1 part boiling water. Practically insol in alcohol. pH of 5% aq soln 7.8 to 8.2.

Use: As reagent for determination of Mg, Zn, and in blowpipe analysis. For standardizing uranium solns. In the prepn of ammonium phosphate and ammonium molybdate stock solns.
