Literature References: The amide of phenylacetic acid, not to be confused with N-phenylacetamide which is acetanilide. Prepd by Willgerodt reaction from acetophenone or from styrene. Properties: Bimorphous plates, leaflets. mp 155°. Distils in vacuo. Freely sol in alc. Slightly sol in water, ether, benzene.
Melting point: mp 155°
Use: In manuf of penicillin G.
