Properties: White or slightly yellowish powder, mp 126°. Bitter taste. Very sol in water; sol in alcohol. Insol in ether, benzene. Aq solns are alkaline to litmus. Aq solns are unstable and dec on standing. Boiling evolves ammonia and causes precipitation of a solid. MLD i.p. in rats: 240-250 mg/kg (Gruber, Brundage).
