Properties: Heavy, grayish-white or pale yellow powder. d 4.36. mp >2000°. Poisonous! Oxidizes in dry air; slowly dec in damp air into carbonate, etc., with evolution of H2S. Slightly sol in cold, more in hot water; sol in NH4Cl soln; decomposed by acids, even CO2, forming H2S. Keep in well-closed containers.

Density: d 4.36
Use: As depilatory; in luminous paints; manuf lithopone; vulcanizing rubber, generating H2S.
