Properties: Deep red needles from xylene, dec 270°, also reported as dec 246°. Sintering ~260° and melting ~280°. Practically insol in water. Very slightly sol in chloroform, ether, benzene; slightly sol in boiling alc; moderately sol in acetone; sol in strong acids with a yellow color.
Melting point: melting ~280°
Use: As 0.03% soln in acetone for detection of silver, mercury, copper, gold, platinum and palladium ions.
