Properties: Colorless, deliquesc crystals or white powder; absorbs CO2 from air forming carbonate. Loses part of its water at about 100°. Sol in 50 parts water, 2.1 parts boiling water. The soln is very alkaline. pH about 13.5. Keep tightly closed.
 
Use: Refining beet sugar; separating crystallizable sugar from molasses.
