Properties: Crystals from ether, mp 108° (rapid heating). Shows mutarotation, final [a]D20 +76° (c = 2 in alcohol). Alkaline reaction to litmus. Freely sol in alcohol, ether, chloroform, benzene. Almost insol in water and petr ether.
