Literature References: An oily liq obtained by distilling alcohol or ether (or both) with sulfuric acid. Constit. Etherin and etherol (C2H4)n, polymers of ethylene; ethyl sulfate and ethyl sulfovinate.
Properties: Colorless to slightly yellow liq; penetrating odor; sharp, bitter taste. d1515 1.095-1.130. Almost insol in water; miscible with alcohol, ether.
Density: d1515 1.095-1.130
Use: For making ethereal oil which is used in making Hoffman's anodyne; sometimes for flavoring brandy.
