Literature References: According to the National Formulary this compd is the anhydride of 4-nitro-3-hydroxymercuri-o-cresol. Prepd by treating 4-nitro-o-cresol with mercuric acetate: US 1544293; US RE 17563 (1925).
Properties: Yellow, odorless, tasteless powder or granules. Insol in water; almost insol in acetone, alcohol, ether, aq soln of sodium carbonate. Sol in solns of alkalies and of ammonia by opening the anhydride ring and the formation of a salt. Also sol in boiling glacial acetic acid.
Therap-Cat: Antiseptic.
Therap-Cat-Vet: Disinfectant (topical).
