Properties: White, very deliquesc, slightly bitter, granular powder. mp 547° when anhydr. Sol in 0.6 part water, 0.4 part boiling water; freely sol in alcohol, glycol; sol in ether, amyl alcohol. The aq soln is neutral or only slightly alkaline to litmus. Keep well closed.
Melting point: mp 547° when anhydr
CAUTION: Large doses may cause CNS depression. Chronic absorption may cause skin eruptions and CNS disturbances due to bromide. May also cause disturbed blood electrolyte balance.
Use: As humectant, in air-conditioning systems.
Therap-Cat: Sedative, hypnotic.
