Properties: Bipyramidal orange-red crystals. Nonhygroscopic if pure. Dec on heating above 100° to CaCrO4 and CrO3. d430 2.370. Very sol in water; insol in ether, CCl4, hydrocarbons; dissolves in alc with immediate reduction of the dichromate and pptn of brown hydrous chromic chromate; dissolves in acetone with subsequent pptn of CaCrO4.

Use: As catalyst; in manuf of CrCl3 and CrO3; corrosion inhibitor.
