Properties: Dark blue-green crystals. d 4.85. Disproportionates in water or dil acid to form Ba(MnO4)2 and MnO2.

Use: As pigment in fresco painting instead of Scheele's green because not so poisonous as latter. As mild oxidizing agent in organic synthesis.
