Properties: Yellow-brown to dark brown crystals; easily oxidized to alizarin. mp 208°; not sublimable. Slightly sol in water or benzene; freely sol in alcohol, ether, acetone, glacial acetic acid. Dissolves in alkalies with greenish-yellow color; in concd H2SO4 with golden-yellow color.
