Properties: Crystals, mp 161°. Fluoresces under ultraviolet light. Practically insol in water. Sol in alkaline aq solns and in solns of wetting agents. Sol in many organic solvents.
Melting point: mp 161°
Use: Bacteriostat in formulations of surgical soaps, laundry soaps, rinses, polishes, shampoos, deodorants. Also as preservative in textile finishes, certain petroleum products, cellulose esters, cutting oils, coolants.
