Literature References: The article of commerce is usually basic. Prepd from valeric acid and zinc hydrate: Lieben, Rossi, Ann. 159, 58 (1871).
Properties: Dihydrate, lustrous scales or powder; valerian odor; sweetish taste. Gradually dec on exposure to air. One gram dissolves in 70 ml water or in 22 ml alcohol when free from basic salt; dec by acid. Keep tightly closed and in cool place.
