Thioredoxin
Title: Thioredoxin
CAS Registry Number: 52500-60-4
Literature References: Ubiquitous, small, hydrogen carrier protein that participates in a wide variety of biochemical reactions, e.g., ribonucleotide reduction, methionine sulfoxide, sulfate and disulfide reduction, phosphate transfer reactions. Thioredoxin is oxidized from a dithiol to a disulfide during ribonucleotide reduction, and regenerated by reduced triphosphopyridine nucleotide (TPNH) and the flavoprotein thioredoxin reductase: Laurent et al., J. Biol. Chem. 239, 3436 (1964). Prepn from Escherichia coli: Williams et al., ibid. 242, 5226 (1967). Complete amino acid sequence: A. Holmgren, Eur. J. Biochem. 6, 475 (1968). Purification and characterization: A. Holmgren et al., J. Biol. Chem. 256, 3118 (1981). Prepn of bacteriophage T4-induced thioredoxin: Berglund, Sjoberg, ibid. 245, 6030 (1970). Amino acid sequence: Sjoberg, Holmgren, ibid. 247, 8063 (1972). The T4 thioredoxin shows no structural homology with thioredoxin from E. coli. Purification, characterization and amino acid sequence of thioredoxin from Corynebacterium nephridii: M. Meng, H. P. C. Hogenkamp, ibid. 256, 9174 (1981).
