Properties: Leaflets from alcohol, mp 149-151°. Practically insol in cold water. Slightly sol in warm water. pH of satd soln at 25° = 4.5. Readily sol in alkaline solns. Soluble in methanol, ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene, chloroform. Solns in alkalies are red, in concd H2SO4 blue.
