Title: Oil of Rue
Literature References: Volatile oil from Ruta graveolens L., Rutaceae. Constit. About 90% methyl nonyl ketone, methyl anthranilate.
Properties: Pale yellow liquid; characteristic, sharp, unpleasant odor, but odor is pleasant on dilution. d1515 0.832-0.845. Solidif +8° to +10°. Optically inactive or slightly dextrorotatory. nD20 1.430-1.440. Almost insol in water; sol in 3 vols 70% alcohol. Keep well closed, cool and protected from light.

CAUTION: Frequent dermal contact produces erythema, vesication. Ingestion of large quantities causes epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, confusion, convulsions, death; may cause abortion.
Use: Flavoring agent in food.
