Properties: Needles from cyclohexane, mp 96-98°. bp3 118-122°. Shows no optical activity. nD21.5 1.4441 (20% in propylene glycol). Soly at 25° in water 0.25%, ethanol 35.0%, hexane 2.0%, sesame oil 0.7%, 1,2-propylene glycol 22%. Stable in N H2SO4 at 30°, but dec at 40° and in 0.02N acid at 60°. In 0.01N NaOH, CO2 is split off at 30°. Lowers the surface tension in satd aq soln at 22° by 21%. Partition coefficient (oil/water): 1.48.
