Properties: Yellow-brown powder. Soluble in water to give a rose-colored soln; sol in ethanol, methanol, ether, acetone, CHCl3 to give blue solns.
 
Derivative Type: Trihydrate
Properties: Violet to violet-brown rhombic crystals; red in transmitted light. Sol in water to give blue soln which becomes pink on dilution; sol in ethanol, ether, acetone to give blue solns.
 
Use: As humidity indicator.
