Properties: Orange, non-hygroscopic solid. Soly in water (g/ml): 1.41 at 25°; 2.27 at 80°. Sol in sulfuric, nitric, perchloric, and hydrochloric acids. Extremely limited soly in orgainc solvents.
Use: As a standard in oxidimetry. Oxidant in redox reactions. In reactions involving carbon-carbon bond formation, oxidative carbon-carbon bond cleavage, nitration, and removal of protecting groups. Soln in dilute perchloric acid as etchant for prepn of printed circuits, metal samples, and surface cleaning prior to fabrication by soldering.
