Properties: Deliquesc granules, mp ~560°. Very sol in water, heat being evolved; freely sol in methanol, ethanol, acetone. Almost insol in concd HNO3. pH of 5% aq soln 6.0. Keep well closed. Note: Ca(NO3)2 crystallizes also with 4H2O (30.5%), mp 45°. Technical flake usually contains 28.6% H2O.
Melting point: mp ~560°; mp 45°
Use: In explosives, fertilizers, matches, pyrotechnics; manuf of incandescent mantles, radio tubes, HNO3; corrosion inhibitor in diesel fuels.
