Literature References: Prepn by direct fusion of B2O3 with CaCO3: Griveau, Compt. Rend. 166, 993 (1918). Various calcium borate minerals occur in nature. These include: colemanite, ginorite, inyoite, meyerhofferite, pandermite, priceite.

Properties: Powder. Almost insol in cold, moderately sol in hot water; sol in dil acids.
 
Use: As flux in heavy-metal metallurgy; mfr of forsterite porcelain insulators; in glycol antifreeze; in fire-retardant paint.
