Properties: Prisms, mp 138-139°. Slightly bitter taste. Practically insol in water and petr ether. Sol in alcohol, chloroform, ether, acetone, glacial acetic acid, also in solns of fixed alkali hydroxides. A satd aq soln is acid to litmus.
