Properties: Black, minute, hexagonal crystals with metallic sheen. d417 5.778, also reported as d 5.64. Sublimes at 439° (760 mm), dec at 500°. Practically insol in cold water, dec slowly in hot water. Sol in liquid ammonia, abs ethanol (about 3.5% at 20°), in aq solns of KI, HI, and HCl. The solid is slowly converted to Bi(IO3)3 upon prolonged exposure to air.
