Properties: Transparent crystals (effloresce on exposure to air) or powder. Sweetish, metallic taste. Poisonous! d 2.6. [a]D20 +140.69° (c = 2 in water), +139.25° (c = 2 in glycerol). One gram dissolves in 12 ml water, 3 ml boiling water, 15 ml glycerol. Insol in alcohol. The aq soln is slightly acid. LD50 in mice (mg/kg): 55 s.c.; 65 i.v. (Ercoli). Incompat. Mineral acids, tannic acid, gallic acids, alkali hydroxides and carbonates, lead and silver salts, mercury bichloride, lime water, albumin, soap.
