Properties: Columnar prisms. Volatilizes quickly in air. Odor resembling that of chloral hydrate. d462 0.9113. mp 60°. bp728 134.8°. Neutral reaction. pK (24.9°): 12.42. uv spectrum: Hartley, Dobbie, J. Chem. Soc. 77, 326 (1900). Freely soluble in water, alcohol, ether, petr ether. Can be extracted with ether from neutral water solns, but not from alkaline or acidic solns.
