Stem Cell Factor
Title: Stem Cell Factor
Additional Names: Steel factor; mast cell growth factor; kit ligand; SCF
Literature References: Hematopoietic growth factor that interacts with other cytokines to stimulate primitive, undifferentiated blast cells and is particularly important in mast cell and erythroid lineages. The full length, membrane bound protein consists of 248 amino acids that is cleaved to produce a soluble form consisting of 165 residues. The soluble form exists as a glycosylated homodimer; mol wt ~45 kDa. Identification: D. E. Williams et al., Cell 63, 167 (1990); K. M. Zsebo et al., ibid. 195. Review of discovery and bioactivity: D.
