Properties: Red-yellow solid. mp 41.5-41.7°; d50 3.38; bp740 217° (dec). Dec in water. Chlorine displaces the bromine. Dec by sulfur and hydrogen sulfide. Sol in sulfuric acid, carbon disulfide, chloroform, benzene, toluene, xylene, carbon tetrachloride. Reacts explosively with sodium and potassium.
