Properties: Colorless tetragonal crystals, d415 3.618. mp 582°. Soly in water (g/100 g H2O): 0.168 at 0°; 0.42 at 20°; 0.93 at 40°; 2.16 at 60°; 4.44 at 80°; 7.87 at 100°; also given as 0.66 at 13°. Sparingly sol in aq KOH.

CAUTION: Highly irritating to skin, eyes, mucous membranes.
Use: Powerful oxidizer in acid soln, oxidizing manganese compds to permanganate; used for this purpose in analytical chemistry (colorimetric estimation of Mn), also for the oxidation of some organic compds.
