Literature References: Composed of benzoates of primary aliphatic fatty amines obtained from palm kernel oil and corn oil as starting materials. Preponderantly dodecylammonium benzoate and tetradecylammonium benzoate. Total nitrogen 4.15% by analysis; average benzoic acid content 27.6% by analysis.
Properties: Yellowish-brown, thick oil. mp -4 to -3°. nD40 1.4855-1.4885. Vapors of Osmaron B turn wet litmus paper blue and turmeric paper brown. Soluble in methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, glycerol, acetone, ethyl acetate, carbon disulfide, formic acid, acetic acid, and lactic acid. Forms turbid solns with ether, gasoline, benzene and its homologs, and chlorinated hydrocarbons which become clear upon deposition of the fine precipitate on standing. Ref: E. Benk, Chem.
