Literature References: Both the annual herbaceous plant and the resulting fiber are known as Kenaf. Believed to have orginated in Western Sudan around 4000 BC, the fiber, primarily produced from Hibiscus cannibinus L., was traditionally used for ropes, canvas, sacks and carpets.
