Properties: Needles with 2H2O, mp 213-215° (after drying in desiccator). [a]D18 -105° (c = 3 in 50% dioxane). Sol in hot water, alc, glacial acetic acid. Insol in ether, petr ether. Sol in dil alkalies with yellow color, but no fluorescence (difference from esculin). Absorption spectrum of soln: Merz, loc. cit.
Melting point: mp 213-215° (after drying in desiccator)
Optical Rotation: [a]D18 -105° (c = 3 in 50% dioxane)
