Literature References: The bismuth content of the complex salts of bismuth and alkali tartrate may be made to range within wide limits (35-75% Bi). The article generally used contains 70-74% bismuth. Prepn: Kober, US 1663201 (1928 to Searle); Hagers Handb. Pharm. Praxis 1st Suppl., 316 (Berlin, 1949).
Properties: Odorless, tasteless powder; discolors in light. Sol in about 3 parts water. Insol in alc or other organic solvents. The aq soln is slightly alkaline.
Therap-Cat: Formerly as antisyphilitic.
